Mirandes vs Sabadell Preview

Sabadell’s bid for survival goes to the final weekend and while the odds are still against them, victory at Mirandes would give them a chance of staying up. They’d still need favours elsewhere but the likes of Alcorcon and Lugo above them have tough final day fixtures and a win for the Catalan side here might just be enough in the final reckoning.
They are up against a Mirandes side that isn’t fighting for anything. They are currently 9th but are 16 points off the play-off places and will be playing Segunda Division football again next term. It hasn’t been as exciting as the 2019/20 season in Miranda de Ebro with no cup heroics to enjoy this time around. Aside from a four game losing streak around the turn of the year, they’ve been pretty solid all season without ever really threatening to break into the top six.
They’ve only managed to win one of their last eight games which will be a bit of a disappointment to coach José Alberto. At 39, he’s one of the youngest coaches in Spain but his contract does expire this summer and he is being tipped to take over at Malaga after a pretty good season with Mirandes.
The real story here is Sabadell though. The Catalans are in their first season back at this level and will be desperate to avoid dropping straight back into the third tier. That looked very likely when they lost their first five fixtures of the Segunda Division season but gradually things have clicked into place and they’ve been more competitive.
Defeat at fellow strugglers Alcorcon looked like a hammer blow to their survival prospects the week before last, but they bounced back well beating Ponferradina 2-0 at home on Monday to ensure they are still alive, albeit in the relegation zone, heading into the final match. Antonio Hidalgo will be hoping his team can produce one last big effort to potentially keep them up.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Mirandes Wins, 2 Sabadell Wins, 2 Draws.
- Mirandes won the reverse fixture 2-0 earlier this term.
- The last 2 meetings in Miranda de Ebro have both been drawn.
Mirandes vs Sabadell Predictions
Score Prediction: Mirandes 1-1 Sabadell
It’s going to be tough for Sabadell here. Mirandes don’t have a lot to be motivated by, but that has been the case for a few weeks now, and they have still only lost 4 home games all season. The likes of Leganes and Almeria have failed to win here in recent weeks and you sense Sabadell may struggle to get the win they need to really give themselves a chance of beating the drop.
