All eyes will be on the top of LaLiga, and to some extent the bottom on Saturday, but there are other matters to be resolved too with Europa League qualification high on Real Sociedad’s list of priorities. They will clinch it if they can win at Osasuna, but anything less than 3 points would make it possible for Villarreal and Real Betis to both overtake them, which would see La Real into the Conference League rather than Europa League.

For Osasuna, there’s not much riding on this, although it is a local derby of sorts and they are always up for their matches against the big Basque clubs. Jagoba Arrasate has done well to guide them comfortably to safety in their second season back at this level. That awkward second campaign can sometimes be a problem for recently promoted clubs but despite some significant injury problems early on, they’ve shown they certainly belong at this level.

They nearly altered the destiny of the Spanish title last weekend when they took a shock lead at the Wanda Metropolitano in the 2nd Half. In the end Atleti came back to seal a dramatic late win but it’s clear that Osasuna are still competing well despite having nothing left to play for. They’ve won their last 3 home games with Elche, Cadiz and Valencia all defeated at El Sadar and a tally of 8 goals scored during that period also suggests they are finding more solutions in the final third.

Real Sociedad meanwhile have been in slightly mixed form with their last 7 league games producing 4 wins and 3 defeats. They’ve been hampered by midfield injury problems but they were back to their best last weekend, blowing Real Valladolid away with four goals in the first 35 minutes of that game.

Truth be told, it would take a series of surprise results for Real Sociedad to end up in 7th place so they do look set for another crack at the Europa League. They ought to be a more experienced and wiser team next time around and will be hoping for slightly more luck in the draw having landed in a tough group before getting eventual Finalists Manchester United in the first knockout round.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 4 Real Sociedad Wins, 2 Draws.
  • The last 2 meetings have been drawn.
  • The reverse fixture ended 1-1 in Donostia earlier this term.
  • La Real were 4-3 winners on their last trip to El Sadar in 2019.

Team News

Ruben Martinez is the only definite absentee for the hosts. Nacho Vidal returns from a ban while there are doubts over the fitness of Jonathan Calleri and Aridane Hernández.

Mikel Merino and Asier Illarramendi are doubts for La Real with few changes expected.

Predicted Osasuna Starting Lineup:

Herrera – Cruz, D. Garcia, U. Garcia, Vidal – Brasanac, Torro, Moncoyola – R. Garcia, Budimir, Barja (4-3-3)

Predicted Real Sociedad Starting Lineup:

Remiro – Monreal, Le Normand, Elustondo, Gorosabel – Zubimendi, Guevara – Oyarzabal, Silva, Portu – Isak (4-2-3-1)

Osasuna vs Real Sociedad Prediction: Real Sociedad to Win 3-2

Real Sociedad matches are usually a good watch with goals to be expected and there has also been plenty of action in recent Osasuna games. They’ve perhaps been a bit more positive having done the hard work of ensuring they had enough points to beat the drop and we could see the goals fly in at El Sadar this Saturday.
