It’s the final weekend in LaLiga 2020/21 and Huesca head into it still unclear as to which division they will be playing in next season. It promises to be an incredibly tense afternoon at El Alcoraz as the Aragonese minnows aim to seal survival in the top flight for the very first time.

They are one of a group of three teams – two of which will be relegated to the Segunda Division on Saturday evening. The good news from a Huesca perspective is they are in pole position to beat the drop and they are the only side who are masters of their own destiny. Win this game and Huesca will be in the top flight again next term as they have a superior H2H record on Elche who they are currently level on points with.

Huesca had a chance to secure their safety last weekend but slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Real Betis. Crucially though, they have found some home form since appointing Pacheta. They’ve won 3 of their last 4 at El Alcoraz with 1-0 victories over the two big Basque clubs having been their last two outings at home. Defensively they’ve looked more solid under their new boss than they did earlier in the season but a return of just 3 goals from their last 7 league matches is a concern going into this “make or break” game.

Valencia don’t have anything to play for. However that was also the case last weekend and they put in one of their most convincing performances of the season to relegate Eibar with a 4-1 win at Mestalla. Goncalo Guedes and Carlos Soler both bagged braces in the victory and we have seen a reaction from them since the all too familiar caretaker appointment of Voro.

Overall though, it has been a forgettable season for followers of Los Che. While they’ve been unable to attend matches prior to last weekend’s game, when some fans were at Mestalla, Valencia supporters have still managed to let their frustrations be known. Their anger towards this board could soon grow further with Getafe boss Jose Bordalas rumoured to be on the brink of taking over, despite some very heated clashes between the teams in recent years.

Head to Head

  • Last 3 Competitive Meetings: 2 Valencia Wins, 1 Draw.
  • Valencia won 6-2 on their only previous LaLiga visit to Huesca in 2019.
  • The sides drew 1-1 at Mestalla earlier this term.
  • All 3 top flight meetings have seen both teams score.

Team News

Huesca’s chances are hampered by suspensions to Dani Escriche and key man Javi Galan. Sergio Gomez is likely to fill in on the left flank.

Valencia may go with the same team that beat Eibar with no significant absentees.

Predicted Huesca Starting Lineup:

Fernandez – Siovas, Pulido, Silva – Gomez, Seoane, Rico, Ferreiro, Maffeo – Sandro, Mir (3-5-2)

Predicted Valencia Starting Lineup:

Cillessen – Diakhaby, Guillamon, Gabriel – Gaya, Wass, Soler, Correia – Kang-In – Gomez, Guedes (3-4-1-2)

Huesca vs Valencia Prediction: Huesca to Win 1-0

It’s crunch-time for Huesca and while you can never truly know how a team will deal with the pressure of a final day survival battle, they have shown enough to suggest they are up for the fight. They may just have enough to edge out a Valencia side that has little to play for but it promises to be a very nervy afternoon at El Alcoraz.
