This Monday we are in Catalonia as Girona host Sporting Gijon in the Estadi Montilivi. Both teams are on the same points and both teams are hoping to go up through the play offs. We could be in for a great game and it is also possible these teams could meet again before the season is over.
Girona are flying right now. Blanquivermells are on a four game winning streak and have scored nine goals in those games. Goals had previously been an issue all season for Girona. It was looking likely that Francisco’s side were not going to make the playoffs but with this great run of form they have put themselves back in contention.
In their last outing they thrashed Logroñés 4-1. Star man Cristhian Stuani was on the scoresheet again netting twice. It hasn’t been the best season for the Uruguayan partly down to niggling injuries but if he can stay fit then Girona will be one of the favourites to clinch promotion but before all this they must keep winning to prove they are the ones who deserve their spot in the Primera.
Sporting have hit a bit of a rough patch recently but did pick up a win in their last outing against Lugo winning 1-0. Campos Gaspar’s crafty finish was enough to get the three points for Los Rojiblancos. This was their first win in six games and they really needed the victory as the playoff spots seem all to play for.
Head Coach David Gallego will be hoping his side can clinch the double over Girona here and that would bring some much needed confidence to his side.
