Villarreal vs Sevilla Preview
Two sides who are used to competing in and around the top six in LaLiga meet on Sunday. Villarreal and Sevilla were widely expected to fight it out for 4th place in LaLiga this term and while that didn’t materialise with Sevilla vastly outperforming the side managed by their former boss, Unai Emery has still steered the Yellow Submarine to the brink of European qualification.
This will most likely be the last time that we see Villarreal field a strong side in the league this term. The Europa League Final comes three days after their final game away to Real Madrid and it seems certain they will field fringe players in that game.
As a result, they will be very eager to secure European qualification on Sunday. Their 2-0 win at Real Valladolid in midweek means they are 5 points clear of 8th placed Celta Vigo, the only side below that can catch them. With Celta away to Barcelona, it’s unlikely Villarreal can be caught even if they lose here, but a point would secure at the very least UEFA Conference League football in 2021/22.
Sevilla meanwhile can no longer win LaLiga but they still have the opportunity to pip Barcelona to 3rd place. That would still be a fantastic achievement and they’re also bidding to set a record club points tally for a top flight season. Julen Lopetegui has done a good job in ensuring their season hasn’t petered out and they come into this game following a midweek victory.
Youssef En-Nesyri’s goal was enough to seal a 1-0 win over Valencia at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. The Moroccan has been one of the real breakout stars this season. While his talent has always been evident, he has finally become the main man up front in a strong side and Sevilla have been rewarded with 18 league goals from En-Nesyri, double his previous best tally in the Spanish top flight.

This is a tough game to call. Villarreal will be really hungry to win it and give themselves the best possible chance of securing Europa League rather than Conference League qualification.
