Getafe vs Levante Preview

Getafe match action

LaLiga reaches its penultimate matchday and this is an absolutely vital game for Getafe. While they’ve been accustomed to competing for European places at this stage in recent seasons, they instead find themselves battling relegation this time around and they are up against an unpredictable Levante side here.

These are two of the small club success stories in LaLiga in recent years, although their methods have been very different. Jose Bordalas’ combative and at times outright dirty Getafe side have become a real nuisance for some of the bigger clubs and it is safe to say few tears would be shed elsewhere should they ultimately go down.

3 straight defeats mean there is now a real possibility that could happen although they remain outside the relegation zone heading into this match and they do have the chance to secure their top flight status this weekend. Since winning a relegation six-pointer against Huesca they’ve suffered three 1-0 defeats, the most recent of which came in Vigo in midweek, although they were a little unfortunate to leave without a point.

Levante meanwhile were involved in one of the games of the season on Tuesday night. They came from 2-0 down to draw 3-3 at home to Barcelona in a game of cracking goals at the Ciutat de Valencia. They have frequently turned it on in the big games in recent years but recent results suggest they may struggle to lift themselves for what is for them an end of season affair at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Their overall return of 5 points from their last 8 games is the joint worst in the division, along with their opponents. In theory, this is a favourable game for Getafe to have at this stage in the campaign but you can never really know what to expect from Levante and if they play like they did in the 2nd Half in midweek, then Geta may find themselves in real trouble.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 1 Getafe Win, 4 Levante Wins, 1 Draw.
  • Levante have won the last 2 meetings – both in Valencia.
  • They beat 9-man Getafe 3-0 in the reverse fixture earlier this term.
  • The last 6 meetings in Madrid have produced 3 wins each.

Team News

Cucho and Erick Cabaco are Getafe’s only notable injury absentees.

Nemanja Radoja, Nikola Vukcevic and Jose Campana are expected to be all missing again for the visitors who may rotate.

Predicted Getafe Starting Lineup:

Soria – Olivera, Timor, Djene, Damian – Cucurella, Arambarri, Maksimovic, Nyom – Mata, Unal (4-4-2)

Predicted Levante Starting Lineup:

Fernandez – Clerc, Pier, Postigo, Coke – Bardhi, Melero, Malsa, De Frutos – Morales, Unal (4-4-2)

Getafe vs Levante Prediction: 1-1 Draw

Getafe just don’t look like a team with goals in them and that has to be a major worry for Jose Bordalas right now. It suggests that even if they do find a bit more intensity and energy than their opponents, which you’d expect in the circumstances, they may still struggle to make any superiority count and they may have to settle for a point which may set up a very nervy final day depending on results elsewhere.
