This Saturday we could witness a promotion party as the league leaders Espanyol travel to Zaragoza in what could be a defying moment in the club’s history. La Romareda is a tough place to get points and we could be in for an entertaining game.

Real Zaragoza are approaching the end of the season and for the stature of the club it hasn’t been a great season. Currently sitting 15th in the table Los Maños are only three points adrift of the relegation places. So all is still to play for if they want to remain in this division.

They are in in decent form and picked up some key wins recently. In their last outing they drew 2-2 with Lugo. In a game where they created many chances they saw themselves 2-1 down until late on when in the 97th minute Argentine goalkeeper Cristian Alvarez came up after Head Coach Juan Ignacio Martínez had given him the green light. It was his header that made it 2-2 to get the all important point. If Zaragoza have any chance in this match they must put away the chances they create.

Win or draw and Espanyol will be promoted back to the Primera División. It was the aim from the start of the season that this club must bounce back in one swoop and they are now so close to achieving that objective.

Head Coach Vicente Moreno will be very happy with the current form of his team. They are unbeaten in fourteen games and are looking unstoppable. In their last outing Los Periquitos were too much for Málaga winning 3-0 with Raúl de Tomás hitting a brace and going top in the goal scoring charts with 22 goals and counting this season. Confidence will be sky high going into this game and it could be a late night of celebrations on Saturday night.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 4 Zaragoza Wins, 1 Espanyol Win, 1 Draw.
  • Espanyol won the reverse fixture 2-0 earlier this term.
  • Zaragoza have won 3 of the last 4 competitive meetings at La Romareda, although this will be the first since 2013.

Real Zaragoza vs Espanyol Predictions

Score Prediction: Real Zaragoza 1-2 Espanyol

What will make it interesting is that Zaragoza really need a result in a bid to avoid a relegation scrap and will make it hard for Espanyol but Vicente Moreno’s side are flying right now and it is hard to see any team stopping them.
