Getafe vs Eibar Preview
Getafe and Eibar clash in a massive game to kick off Sunday’s action in LaLiga. Both teams have established themselves in the Spanish top flight in recent years but find themselves in trouble heading into the final four fixtures. Eibar’s plight is significantly worse and even a draw here would not do them any real favours as they bid to stage a dramatic late escape.
Getafe have an 8 point advantage on their opponents but they are only 4 points above the relegation zone heading into the weekend. Their current tally of 34 points almost certainly won’t be enough to keep them in this league and this is perhaps their best remaining chance to put a win on the board, although they don’t have the toughest of run-ins.
They come into this following on from three straight away games. They suffered defeats against Barcelona and Villarreal but crucially won a six-pointer against Huesca in between those two games. That ability to defeat a direct relegation rival should stand them in good stead heading into this game and Getafe are in fact yet to lose against current bottom four opposition this season.
They won’t exactly be up against a resurgent Eibar side, but it’s certainly now a team with an element of belief again after their 3-0 win over Alaves last weekend. Kike’s fine hat-trick settled a game which would have all but relegated Eibar had the result gone against them. They still have a mountain to climb but they should travel to Madrid with some belief restored having lost five on the bounce prior to that.
Even in a couple of those recent losses, Eibar didn’t play badly and created the lion share of chances. However Kike aside, they’ve just lacked any kind of conviction in the final third with no other Eibar player having netted more all season than the 3 goals the 31 year old forward scored last weekend in one afternoon.

Soria – Olivera, Timor, Djene, Iglesias – Cucurella, Arambarri, Maksimovic, Alena – Mata, Unal (4-4-2)
Predicted Eibar Starting Lineup:
Dmitrovic – Angel, Arbilla, Oliveira, Correa – Gil, Atienza, Diop, Exposito – Kike, Enrich (4-4-2)
Getafe vs Eibar Prediction: 1-1 Draw
This is a tough game to call with no side having shown any real consistency all season, at least not in terms of positive results. Eibar aren’t playing badly at the moment but there is a sense that they’ve simply left themselves far too much to do and with some relatively favourable fixtures to come, Getafe might be content enough to take a point here and edge themselves closer to the finish line.
