Cadiz and Huesca clash in a meeting of two teams who were promoted to LaLiga in 2020. While it was Huesca who ultimately won last season’s Segunda Division, it’s Cadiz who have made the better adjustment to life in the top flight with safety all but guaranteed heading into this weekend.

Victory here would guarantee Cadiz’s mathematical survival and that will add a little bit of extra incentive for Alvaro Cervera and his side. Realistically though, having hit 40 points with a surprise win at Granada last weekend, they have absolutely nothing to be fearful of heading into this game and will be in a position to enjoy their summers.

A run of 3 wins and just 1 defeat in 6 league outings has been enough to pull Cadiz well clear of the relegation dogfight. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of business they can do this summer. Their position is surprisingly comfortable given their top scorer Alvaro Negredo has just 7 goals with no other Cadiz player managing more than 5 in LaLiga. They will surely look to add a bit more firepower ahead of what could be a more challenging season with Espanyol and Mallorca expected to be competitive on their likely returns to the top flight.

This is a bigger game for Huesca who right now cannot make any serious plans for next season as it’s so hard to call which division they will be in. It has been a campaign of twists and turns, particularly over the past few weeks. Back-to-back wins over Levante and Elche gave them renewed hope before three straight defeats plunged them back into deep trouble.

However Huesca bounced back again last time out, picking up a vital 1-0 home win against European hopefuls Real Sociedad. They have only won twice all season on their travels but that may need to change if they are going to stay in this league and this is most likely their best chances with a trip to top six Real Betis their only other remaining road game.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Cadiz Wins, 1 Huesca Win, 3 Draws.
  • Cadiz won 2-0 at El Alcoraz earlier in the season.
  • They are unbeaten in their last 4 meetings with Huesca.
  • The 4 meetings in Cadiz this century have produced just 4 goals in total.

Team News

Alfonso Espino is available following suspension for Cadiz and should start at left-back. Juan Cala and Alex Fernandez are significant injury absentees.

Huesca are missing both Jorge Pulido and Jaime Seoane to suspension.

Predicted Cadiz Starting Lineup:

Ledesma – Espino, Fali, Mauro, Iza – Jairo, Jonsson, Mari, Alejo – Sobrino, Negredo (4-4-2)

Predicted Huesca Starting Lineup:

Fernandez – Siovas, Silva, Vavro – Galan, Rico, Mosquera, Ferreiro, Maffeo – Sandro, Mir (3-5-2)

Cadiz vs Huesca Prediction: 1-1 Draw

This is a very important game for Huesca and they come into it on a real high following that late win over La Real. Cadiz are in good form though and haven’t shown any real signs that they’ve started to switch off despite survival having all but been secured. A draw looks the most likely outcome here.
