Leganes vs Sporting Gijon Preview
On Sunday we have 4th vs 5th as Leganés host Sporting Gijón in the Estadio Butarque. We could be in for an interesting match. This could be a warm up match for the two sides who could play each other in the playoffs in the near future.
Leganés’s aim this season is to bounce back to the Primera División in one go. It has been going well for Head Coach Asier Garitano who arrived back at the club in late January. But recent results haven’t been great with only three wins in their last ten matches.
It hasn’t made too much difference to their league position as the teams around them have also been dropping points. In their last outing they came from behind to beat relegation threatened Alcorcón 2-1. It was a very solid performance and a win that was much needed. Los Pepineros will need to find some consistency and get some wins together. Going on a winning run this late into the season will be massive for the players’ confidence going into the play offs.
Sporting Gijón’s chances of promotion also look like it will be via the play off route. They sit just below Leganés with Rayo and Girona breathing down their necks. Like their opponents, Sporting are not in good form with just two wins in their last ten matches and they have failed to score in their last three games.
It will be a slight concern to Head Coach David Gallego who will know Girona are finding wins and if they are not careful they could see themselves fall out of the play off places. Los Rojiblancos drew 0-0 in their last match against Real Zaragoza in another game that top scorer Uros Djurdjevic failed to score. Sporting will need him firing on all cylinders again if they want to get something out of this match.
