The Friday game this week in LaLiga comes from Balaidos. There’s not much at stake here but with two of the division’s more entertaining sides in action, we could still be in for a very watchable game of football.

Celta Vigo are sat in 10th place and having passed the 40 point mark last weekend, they can at least reflect on a season of progress. That perhaps says more about the underachievements of the previous two years as they’ve always had some quality in their squad. Chacho Coudet quickly found a system that has got a lot more out of these players than his predecessors managed and he should certainly be applauded for that.

The 4-1-3-2 system has enabled him to make the best out of Celta’s top heavy squad. Crucially Renato Tapia has enjoyed a great first season in Spain playing in the holding role but the defence remains a bit unreliable at times while Coudet will also want more consistency out of some of his attacking players. They come into this game following a 2-1 home win over Osasuna, but just one victory in six games prior to that ended any hopes of them challenging for Europe.

Levante are in a similar position in the table but have more of an “end of season” feel to them. They’ve lost 5 of their last 6 in LaLiga – the exception being a victory over bottom club Eibar. They lost 1-0 away to another of the struggling teams at the weekend in the shape of Elche and Paco Lopez will be disappointed in the way his side appears to have just switched off now survival has been all but secured.

Injuries have played their part too. Jose Campana, arguably their most talented player, has missed much of the season while their midfield problems have been compounded by injuries to the likes of Nemanja Radoja and Nikola Vukcevic. A return of just 3 goals in their last 8 games is also most unlike them with their trusted front two not quite on top of their game right now.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Celta Wins, 3 Levante Wins, 1 Draw.
  • Levante have taken 10 points from their last 4 league games against Celta.
  • They’ve won 3-2 and 4-1 on their last two trips to Vigo.
  • The sides drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture earlier this term.

Team News

Hugo Mallo is a doubt for Celta who are still missing Emre Mor and Ruben Blanco to injury.

Mickael Malsa is suspended for Levante meaning they are missing four midfielders here with Campana, Vukcevic and Radoja out injured.

Predicted Celta Starting Lineup:

Villar – Martin, Murillo, Araujo, Mallo – Tapia – Nolito, Suarez, Mendez – Aspas, Mina (4-1-3-2)

Predicted Levante Starting Lineup:

Cardenas – Clerc, Duarte, Postigo, Coke – Bardhi, Melero, Pier, De Frutos – Roger, Morales (4-4-2)

Celta Vigo vs Levante Prediction – Celta to win 3-1

Celta Vigo look the most likely victors here. Levante haven’t been good enough in the middle of the park of late with lots of absent players and they seem to be struggling to play with the same intensity now this season is winding to a close.
