Sevilla vs Granada Preview
Sevilla take on Granada in an Andalusian derby this Sunday in LaLiga. This is a big one for the hosts who are emerging as surprise title candidates. Much will depend on results elsewhere this weekend, but there is certainly the potential for the “big three” to drop points and this is a game Sevilla will believe they should win.
They will be the neutrals choice to win LaLiga, even more so after the events of the last week, but it’s going to take a monumental effort from Julen Lopetegui’s side, as well as a bit of fortune elsewhere, for that to happen. With six wins and a draw from their last seven, Sevilla are the form team in the Spanish top flight and there’s no reason why they can’t extend that winning streak here.
They come into the game following three straight away wins over Celta, Real Sociedad and Levante. Sevilla also boast an impressive 73% home win ratio in LaLiga this term and they’ve done well to bounce back from the disappointment of two cup exits and put together a strong charge in LaLiga when it would have been quite easy for them to drift towards the end of this season with 4th place all but guaranteed.
Granada have also enjoyed an excellent campaign, largely in Europe where they progressed to the Quarter-Finals of the Europa League. They find themselves in a similar predicament to Sevilla a few weeks back, as they look to maintain their motivation even though there doesn’t seem to be a great deal left to play for.
They come into this game following back-to-back wins over Real Valladolid and Eibar with four goals fired past the Basque minnows in midweek as Roberto Soldado scored twice. One slightly surprising stat is that Granada actually ranked 19th this season in LaLiga in terms of xPTS prior to their midweek game (now 17th), which does suggest they have been a little fortunate to be situated as high as 8th but it reflects well on their ability to convert chances.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 3 Sevilla Wins, 3 Granada Wins.
- Sevilla have won 5 of their last 6 at home to Granada.
- The exception was a 4-1 Granada victory in May 2016.
- Granada won the reverse fixture 1-0 earlier this term.
Jules Kounde is a slight doubt for Sevilla but they still look like they will be able to field their strongest XI here.
Luis Milla and Domingos Duarte continue to miss out due to injury for Granada.
Predicted Sevilla Starting Lineup:

Sevilla vs Granada Predictions
Score Prediction: Sevilla 2-1 Granada
You can never totally write off Granada who have shown consistently over the past couple of years that they can compete with more illustrious opponents. They will make this tough for Sevilla but the hosts are on a roll and look well capable of claiming three points to keep those title dreams alive.
