Real Sociedad vs Celta Vigo Preview
It’s usually a good watch whenever Real Sociedad or Celta Vigo play and this could be one of the games to keep an eye on this week in LaLiga. La Real are battling for European positions while Celta are not completely out of the race but they have to win this game to stand any realistic chance.
Assuming none of the sides totally collapse, Real Sociedad will be competing with Villarreal and Real Betis for 5th, 6th and 7th places. Barcelona’s Copa del Rey win means that both 5th and 6th will now be good enough for Europa League qualification while the team that ends up in 7th will go into the inaugural UEFA Conference League. La Real are currently the side in 7th but they’ll fancy their chances of leapfrogging either Betis or Villarreal by the end of May.
Their current form suggests otherwise though. They’ve only collected two points from their last five league outings despite winning the 2020 Copa del Rey during that period. Their last outing was a 2-1 home defeat against Sevilla at the weekend and despite their strong start, it has become clear that La Real are simply not on the level of the top four clubs with some flaws emerging as the season has progressed.
Celta Vigo will be hoping to expose them here. They have been a bit of a mixed bag since making a very strong start to life under Chacho Coudet. It’s 2 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats from their last 8 outings in LaLiga and they look to be heading for a safe mid-table finish unless they can rediscover that red hot form they showcased at the end of 2020.
Their recent away record has been much improved though. They’ve taken 7 points from their last 3 away games in LaLiga, scoring a total of 7 goals in victories over Huesca and Alaves before a considerably less exciting 0-0 draw against Cadiz at the weekend.

Real Sociedad vs Celta Vigo Predictions
Score Prediction: Real Sociedad 1-1 Celta Vigo
It’s a tough game to call with La Real not in great form and showing signs of fatigue at the end of a very busy season for them. Celta Vigo are unpredictable and while there have been some excellent showings from them, it’s not anywhere near consistent enough to feel confident about their chances of leaving Donostia with all the points.
