Atletico Madrid’s title bid continues on Thursday with a home game against Huesca. Since beating Eibar on Saturday, they have joined and left a European Super League. Such moves have angered large sections of their fanbase, more so than at the other two LaLiga clubs involved you sense with this throwing great doubt on Atleti’s reputation as the so-called “people’s club”.

Diego Simeone’s refusal to get involved will also disappoint some and is in contrast to the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp who spoke out against it in England. They’d won just one of their previous four league games but will view this now as a chance to build some momentum again with another home game against struggling opponents here.

Huesca perhaps have a bit more about them than rock bottom Eibar who are starting to look destined for the Segunda Division. Certainly they are likely to ask more questions of this Atletico Madrid defence with Rafa Mir enjoying a strong season up top for the Aragonese side and likely to be a handful.

Pacheta’s side come into this game on the back of a damaging 1-0 loss to fellow strugglers Alaves. They’d put back-to-back wins together prior to that though and rank in the top half of the form table for the last eight games. Huesca’s fight for survival is likely to go to the wire and while anything here would be a bonus, Atleti’s recent wobbles will mean they travel with at least a degree of belief.
