Elche vs Real Valladolid Preview

Elche stadium

The big game at the bottom during the midweek fixtures in LaLiga comes from the Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero. It sees Elche in 19th host Real Valladolid in 16th but with just one point between the sides, it’s virtually impossible to call who is going to end up going down this season and results in these kinds of six-pointers may end up being decisive.

The stakes couldn’t be much higher. Elche come into this one following damaging away defeats against fellow bottom half teams in the shape of Huesca and Osasuna. They went down 2-0 at El Sadar at the weekend but have been pretty good at home since Fran Escriba took over.

It’s 7 points from 3 home games under Escriba with victories of Eibar and Sevilla, as well as a draw against Betis. Their overall return of just 2 points from the last 6 may be poor, but is skewed slightly by 5 of those 6 matches being away from home and you suspect Elche will be pretty content to have got through that run and only find themselves a point off safety.

As for Real Valladolid, they took a big leap towards safety when they defeated fellow strugglers Getafe at home a few weeks back. However it’s just 2 points from 4 since then with late goals costing them badly against Sevilla, Barcelona and again against Granada at the weekend.

Had those matches finished after 75 minutes, Real Valladolid would have 6 extra points on the board and they’d be very much heading towards safety. However Sergio’s side have failed to see the job out and Sunday’s game against Granada where they let a 1-0 advantage slip to lose to the Andalusian side late on would have been particularly tough to take.

Team News

Jawad El Yamiq, Raúl García and Javi Sanchez are out injured while striker Shon Weissman is a major doubt.

Predicted Elche Starting Lineup:

Gazzaniga – Mojica, Verdu, Calvo, Palacios – Fidel, Marcone, Guti, Morente – Boye, Milla (4-4-2)

Predicted Real Valladolid Starting Lineup:

Masip – Olaza, Bruno, Joaquin, Janko – Plano, Alcaraz, Mesa, Orellana – Guardiola, Kodro (4-4-2)

Elche vs Real Valladolid Predictions

Score Prediction: Elche 1-1 Real Valladolid

This is a tough one to call. Neither side is particularly convincing. Real Valladolid have been playing a bit better since the turn of the year but they are struggling to see games out. It’s hard to see leaving with three points against an Elche side that has been reasonably good at home of late and a draw looks a likely outcome here.
