Almeria vs Espanyol Preview
On Monday we have a big game in La Liga SmartBank as promotion hopefuls Almería host league leaders Espanyol in the Estadio Juegos Mediterráneos. The two teams lead the way in goals scored in the Segunda Division this season so we should see goals in this one.
Almería have only one win in their last five matches and that has now seem them drop off from the fight for the two automatic spots. It seems the playoff route will be the way for La Unión to make it back to the top flight but with it being very tight Head Coach José Gomes knows that his side need to get back to winning ways.
In their last outing they were beaten 2-1 by Real Zaragoza. A match in which they dominated for most parts but unlike normal they didn’t take their chances. Argentine midfielder Lucas Robertone was unlucky as his thunderbolt from outside the box was disallowed due to an offside in the build up to the goal. Almería will go into this match as the underdogs but if they get something here it would be a huge confidence booster for their promotion hopes.
Espanyol are flying right now. They are on a five game winning streak which sees them ten points ahead of their opponents in the league and with Mallorca losing this weekend they could extend the gap to five points and establish an even further lead. Vicente Moreno’s side already have a foot in the Primera División but they will want to finish on top and he will know his side have to maintain their concentration as there are still games left.
Los Periquitos came out on top in their last outing in a thrilling match against Leganes winning 2-1. Nico Melamed’s golazo was enough to separate the two sides in a match that was end to end. Vicente Moreno will be hoping his side will not concede as many chances going into this match.
