Real Valladolid vs Granada Preview

Real Valladolid stadium

Real Valladolid’s bid for top flight survival continues on Friday as they welcome Granada to the Jose Zorrilla. Sergio’s side have put in some improved recent displays and will see this as a real opportunity to put three priceless points on the board with Granada playing this match in the middle of a Europa League Quarter-Final.

The hosts were four games unbeaten in LaLiga heading into their trip to Camp Nou last Monday. They very nearly made it five too but ultimately succumbed to a late goal from Ousmane Dembele. Real Valladolid were left fuming though by a bizarre red card issued to Oscar Plano 11 minutes from time which made their task all the more difficult.

They were also denied three points in painful circumstances in their previous game as Sevilla goalkeeper Bono scored a Stoppage Time leveller. Real Valladolid should still be able to take plenty of positives from those two displays but they’ll know those lost points may prove very costly come the end of the season.

Granada meanwhile are safely placed in mid-table, 10 points off the European places. It seems likely that we will see some rotation from Diego Martinez again with Granada in the midst of a historic European quarter-final against Manchester United. They were beaten 2-0 by the Red Devils at Los Carmenes on Thursday night and it does look like their journey is coming to an end but they will want to be in a position to give a strong account of themselves at Old Trafford this coming week.

Granada have lost 5 of their last 7 in LaLiga but two home wins during that period have ensured they’ve maintained a safe position in the middle of the table. They’ve not travelled well this term in LaLiga though, winning just twice away from Los Carmenes. Their average of 0.64 points per away game is the joint worst record in the division, along with Alaves.
