Eibar’s bid for LaLiga survival sees them play another important game on Saturday with Levante travelling to Ipurua. The visitors have had a good season but look in danger of drifting somewhat towards a mid-table finish and the home team will see this as one of the games they have a genuine chance of winning.

Eibar are only off the bottom on goal difference heading into this matchday. However unlike 20th placed Alaves, who have sacked two coaches in 2021, there is no pressure on José Luis Mendilibar who has worked miracles at this club over the years. Not since Eibar’s first season at this level though, have the Basque minnows looked in such peril and it’s going to be a nervy end to the campaign for all involved with the club.

They come into this match without a win in 13 games in all competitions. That sequence started with a 2-1 defeat in the reverse fixture against Levante back in early January. Their greatest problem has been at home with Ipurua not proving a difficult place for visiting teams to come this season. Eibar have only won once on home soil and their return of just 9 home points is the worst in the division.

Levante haven’t been particularly great on the road, averaging less than a point per game away, despite winning at both Madrid clubs. Their only other road victory in LaLiga this season was at Osasuna back in September and they’ve lost 50% of their away fixtures overall.

The integration of the likes of youngster Jorge De Frutos into the starting XI has been one the positives for Paco Lopez this season. He has shone on the right flank and with 7 assists, he has more than double the number of the next most creative Levante player. It’ll be interesting to see whether they opt to bring in some more young players this summer to continue the gradual regeneration of this squad.
