The matchday 30 action in LaLiga kicks off with a massive relegation six-pointer at El Alcoraz. Both Huesca and Elche came up from the Segunda Division last season and both somewhat predictably find themselves battling relegation as we head into the home straight. Elche in 17th are 2 points better off then Huesca in 18th heading into this match.

Of the two, it was certainly Huesca who were expected to do better this term. While they’ve found it tough to turn positive performances into positive results, things are starting to look up for the club that are now coached by Elche’s promotion winning boss Pacheta. This will be a very important evening for the 53 year old as he tries to defeat the club he guided from the Segunda B to the top flight.

Huesca picked up a fantastic 2-0 win away to Levante last time out to bolster their survival prospects. As he has been for much of the season, Rafa Mir was the star with a brace to take his tally to 10 LaLiga goals for the season. Whether or not Huesca stay up, you suspect he will be a top flight player again in 2021/22.

Elche meanwhile are hovering above the bottom three but will know that victory here would give them a five point advantage on the relegation zone. That really would spark optimism at the Manuel Martinez Valero that they could go on and beat the drop but there is a long way to go. They come into this one following back-to-back draws against Getafe and Betis.

Pere Milla’s leveller grabbed a point last time out against the Seville club but unlike Huesca they have needed to share the goals around this season with Lucas Boye top scoring with 5. Significantly though, Elche’s results against the current bottom three have been good. They’ve not conceded in any of their four matches against the teams in the drop-zone, winning 3 of them and they’ll be hoping to keep that record going here in what is the biggest game of the season to date for both clubs.

Team News

Gaston Silva, Javier Ontiveros and Pablo Maffeo are out injured for the home team.

Huesca may have a bit more quality but they have only won two home games all season so it’s never easy to feel 100% confident of their chances. Elche have only lost 2 of their 12 games this season against current bottom half teams and they’ve not lost away to anyone beneath 12th placed Valencia. They might just have enough to take a point at El Alcoraz.
