Levante vs Huesca Preview

Levante match action

LaLiga returns on Friday following the international break with a clash between Levante and Huesca at the Ciutat de Valencia. The hosts will climb to 8th if they can get the win they need to keep themselves in the hunt for European qualification while the visitors are hoping to climb off the bottom.

Levante’s hopes of Europa League or Conference League qualification suffered a blow last time out as they sank to a 2-0 defeat at fellow hopefuls Real Betis. Their away results have at times let them down but they’ve only been beaten twice at home in LaLiga this term, and only once at the Ciutat de Valencia with their early loss to Real Madrid coming in Villarreal.

They were derby winners against Valencia in their last home game and trying to finish above Los Che for the very first time is likely to be the primary source of motivation for Paco Lopez’s men should their European hopes fade. They will be hoping to take advantage of Huesca’s defensive frailties here with their long-serving strike-force of Jose Luis Morales and Roger Marti having both reached double figures already this season in LaLiga.

Huesca’s top scorer Rafa Mir isn’t far behind with 8 goals but he’s had precious little help from his teammates. Sandro Ramirez has netted 3 times while their next highest scorer is centre-back Dimitrios Siovas with just 2. Hopes of a great escape have faded a bit over recent weeks with just 2 points from their last 4 games suggesting the Pacheta honeymoon is certainly over, if it ever really got going.

Their points during that spell came via draws against Eibar and Osasuna but they do really need to start beating some of their fellow strugglers if they are going to stand much chance of beating the drop with games gradually starting to run out. They travel south here having won just once all season away from El Alcoraz but with a decent recent record away to Levante.

It’s difficult to look past Levante here. Few of their most important players have been involved during the international break so they’ve had a much needed fortnight to rest and recover after a busy period which included a long run in the Copa del Rey. They should be fresh and good to go here and ought to improve on an already impressive home record.
