Valencia vs Granada Preview
European quarter-finalists Granada return to domestic action again this weekend as they travel to Valencia on Sunday in LaLiga. The visitors have done brilliantly to sustain a push for European qualification again via the league whilst battling through to the last eight of the Europa League and they’ll be hoping to find some gas left in the tank for this one.
Valencia come into this match following a derby defeat to Levante last time out but their recent home form has been pretty good and it does look like it will be enough to ensure they don’t get sucked into the relegation scrap. Only 3 teams have beaten Valencia at Mestalla this term in LaLiga and they’ve not lost at home to anyone outside the current top six.
Despite that they are now 10 points adrift of Villarreal in 7th which is the lowest possible place that will be good enough for European qualification. It’s impossible to see Los Che making even the newly formed UEFA Conference League and that will bring fresh questions about whether we may see a fresh exodus of players this summer with the club still in the hands of Peter Lim.
As for Granada, this is now one of the very best periods in their history. They advanced from their Europa League last 16 tie on Thursday against Molde to set up a historic clash with Manchester United in their debut European season. That tie will come after the international break and sadly for Granada it is likely that their home leg will be moved to a neutral venue due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
That’a a matter for another day though and the good news for Diego Martinez is that his team’s injury problems are starting to ease. They did brilliantly to see off Real Sociedad last weekend in the circumstances and the Granada boss will be hoping his team can put in one last effort here before the international break which will grant some of his players a well earned rest.

While the fatigue risks of their European campaign hasn’t spilled over into LaLiga as much as many suspected, Granada have struggled on their travels of late, taking just 1 point from their last 4 away matches in LaLiga. With Valencia going pretty well at home, where they’ve won their last 3, Los Che look like they may just have the edge here.
