Real Valladolid vs Sevilla Preview
The late game on Saturday in LaLiga comes from the Jose Zorrilla and it sees Real Valladolid play host to Sevilla. The hosts are involved in the thick of the relegation scrap and will be targeting a shock win against a Sevilla side that no longer has any cup distractions and is focused on finishing as high as possible in LaLiga.
Real Valladolid looked in deep trouble a few weeks ago but a three game unbeaten streak including a key 2-1 win over relegation rivals Getafe has helped boost their survival prospects. They’ve also taken good points away to Celta and Osasuna during that period and they’ll most likely adopt quite a cautious approach and would be more than happy to settle for another draw here.
Overall, Real Valladolid have rarely impressed this season and have certainly failed to kick on having established themselves back in the top flight over the past two years. Their top scorer is Shon Weissman with just 4 goals in LaLiga and there’s not really anybody in their side that stands out as having had a really good season.
Sevilla have been solid rather than spectacular. Defensively they’ve been very good again with only Atletico Madrid having let in fewer goals in LaLiga. However going forward, they haven’t really looked like an elite team. Lucas Ocampos has been less impressive this term but fortunately for Julen Lopetegui, Youssef En-Nesyri has really stepped up, firing in 15 league goals, 11 more than any of his teammates have managed.
They find themselves in the relatively unfamiliar position of being in March and having no cup distractions remaining. They look too far back to seriously get in the title race too so maintaining their current 4th place is the only real target from here on in for Sevilla. Having won the derby against Betis last weekend, they now have a 9 point advantage on 5th placed Real Sociedad and it would be a major surprise if they fail to qualify for the Champions League from this position.
