Espanyol vs UD Logroñés Preview
On Saturday in La Liga SmartBank we have promotion chasing Espanyol facing off against relegation threatened Logroñés in the RCDE Stadium.
Espanyol are now without a win in three games. In their last outing they drew 2-2 with Mirandes in what was very nearly a loss until Nico Melamed’s 95th minute header salvaged a point for the Catalans. Luckily for Vicente Moreno’s side both Mallorca and Almeria also dropped points on the same weekend.
Even with only two wins in their last eight league games, they see themselves still just five points adrift from the top and still very much in the hunt for automatic promotion. However a win here is an absolute must for Los Periquitos. If they are to go up in the automatic places they need to rediscover the form they showed at the beginning of the season. It looked like Espanyol were potentially going to be out on their own and now if they are not careful in-form Leganes could also overtake them in the league.
Logroñés meanwhile, are in a really bad way at the moment. In their last outing they come unstuck again losing to Malaga at home 1-0. After having that great winning streak back in October winning six on the bounce, things have just got worse and worse. They have now recorded one win in their last fifteen league matches and this is a massive concern for Head Coach Sergio Rodriguez who guided this team to promotion last year.
Everyone knows how tough it is to stay in this division. If they can get something out if this match it would be a massive confidence boost to their survival hopes.

Just like in Las Guanas this tie was a real uphill battle for Logroñés and it is very hard to look past another dominant Espanyol win. Vicente Moreno’s men have problems of their own but this should still be a comfortable home win with a significant gulf in quality between the teams.
