There’s a big game at El Alcoraz this Saturday as Huesca seek a much needed victory in their battle to beat the drop. Despite plenty of good performances, Huesca remain where they have been for most of the season – rock bottom. This is the kind of game they are going to have to win if they want to claw themselves to safety.

While there have been moments of promise since Pacheta took charge and some good early results, you do have to question whether anything has really changed. They are still conceding too many goals and for all their pretty football, are a soft touch at times. They’ve let in 4 goals in each of their last 2 matches in LaLiga and have lost 4 of their last 6.

This is the start of a crucial spell with three of their next five games at home, with their visitors being Osasuna, Elche and Getafe. All of those sides are in the bottom eight and involved in the relegation scrap and you sense Huesca are going to need to win at least two of those matches if they are going to stand much chance of beating the drop.

This is arguably the toughest of the trio against an Osasuna side that does look like it should have enough to stay afloat. They have a six point advantage on the relegation zone as it stands and were they to leave El Alcoraz with all the points, they could probably afford to start planning for another season in the top flight in 2021/22. That would be a significant achievement for Jagoba Arrasate and his team, not least because for the second season running they were rocked by a long-term injury to Chimy Avila, their most dangerous attacking player.

Osasuna have found goals particularly hard to come by of late. They’ve netted just twice in their last five league matches but both of those goals were enough to secure 1-0 away wins against Alaves and Levante. They also got a point in a goalless draw at home to Real Valladolid last time out and they have been getting plenty of good results in these games against fellow strugglers which really doesn’t bode well for Huesca, although the visitors are hampered by a COVID-19 outbreak in their camp.

Head to Head

  • Last 5 Competitive Meetings: 2 Huesca Wins, 1 Osasuna Win, 2 Draws.
  • Huesca are unbeaten in 4 competitive games against Osasuna.
  • The sides drew 1-1 at El Sadar earlier this term.
  • The clubs had never previously met in the top flight.

Team News

Gaston Silva is the only definite injury absentee for the hosts.

Osasuna’s Sergio Herrera, Unai Garcia, Oier and Roberto Torres are all out following positive COVID-19 tests. That should see Juan Perez start in goal while Jony will feature out wide.

Predicted Huesca Starting Lineup:

Fernandez – Galan, Insua, Siovas, Pulido, Maffeo – Seoane, Rico, Doumbia – Escriche, Mir (5-3-2)

Predicted Osasuna Starting Lineup:

Perez – Sanchez, Garcia, Hernandez, Vidal – Moncayola, Torro – Jony, Garcia, Barja – Calleri (4-2-3-1)

LaLiga Expert Predicts: Huesca 2-1 Osasuna (follow us on Tipstrr to view our betting tips)

Huesca really need the win and Osasuna’s selection issues as a result of a significant COVID-19 outbreak suggests they may just get it. Huesca’s football continues to be pretty good and they could just take advantage of some defensive uncertainty in the away team which may come from those enforced changes.
