Real Betis vs Levante Preview
The Friday night game in LaLiga this week comes from the Benito Villamarin as Real Betis play host to Levante. Both sides are in the top half and pushing for European qualification so it’s an important game with both coaches keen to go into the international break on a positive note.
Betis are currently 3 places and 7 points better off. Victory really would put them in a very strong position to finish in the top seven, although the outcome of the 2021 Copa del Rey Final will determine whether it is 6th or 7th that is the final European place. Manuel Pellegrini’s side are hoping to bounce back from derby disappointment last time out.
They gave a pretty decent account of themselves at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan but Youssef En-Nesyri’s 1st Half goal sealed victory for Sevilla and ended Betis’ 4 game winning streak in LaLiga. Only three teams have collected more points over the course of the last eight games than Betis and they now boast a 54% home win ratio across the season, good going in a season where fans are absent from LaLiga stadiums.
Levante were also involved in a derby against city rivals last time out. They came out on top with a 1-0 victory over Valencia thanks to Roger Marti’s early strike. Levante now hold a five point cushion on their neighbours as they bid to finish the season as the top team in Valencia for the very first time.
Paco Lopez won’t be ruling out a European push either. They’ve had some time now to digest and move on from the bitter disappointment of their late defeat in the Copa del Rey Semi-Finals. They were really poor in their immediate game after that against Real Sociedad but we should see a much more competitive Levante here at the Benito Villamarin.

Marc Bartra remains an injury doubt for Betis but they have no fresh concerns heading into this match.

Manuel Pellegrini deserves great credit for the job he has done with Betis, but if there is to be a criticism, it’s that they’ve struggled against the stronger teams suggesting there are clear limitations to this side’s progress. They’ve only won one game all season in LaLiga against a team currently in the top half of the table and they may have to settle for a point here against a strong Levante side.
