Barcelona vs Huesca Preview
There’s a rare Monday night game for Barcelona this week as they welcome struggling Huesca to Camp Nou. The hosts are right back in the title race with Atleti dropping plenty of points in recent weeks and Barca will be just 4 points off the top if they can win this game, having played the same number of matches as both Madrid clubs.
This is a Barcelona side that is playing well right now and there are reasons for followers of the Catalan club to be positive about what could be achieved over the remainder of this campaign. They still have to face both Atleti and Real Madrid, but to make those games meaningful, they need to win matches such as this.
If they can reproduce the level found in Paris last week, that should be no problem. While the tie was already as good as over, it was still an impressive showing from Barcelona with the system working well and had they been more clinical, they would have left with a much better result than a 1-1 draw. We may see a back three again here although that will depend on either Ronald Araujo or Gerard Pique overcoming injuries to start alongside Clement Lenglet and Oscar Mingueza.
Huesca are, as they have been for much of this season, LaLiga’s bottom club. A shock victory here would lift them to 18th but there isn’t a huge amount of pressure on the Aragonese club, after nobody else in the bottom eight won over the weekend. Having conceded eight times on each of their previous two visits to Camp Nou, the omens aren’t exactly positive for Huesca but some of their performances of late have been.
Wins over Real Valladolid and Granada since the turn of the year have kept them in touch with the sides above them but they would have been disappointed to end up on the wrong end of a 4-3 scoreline last time out against Celta Vigo. Even since the change in coach, Huesca have persisted with quite an adventurous approach but we are unlikely to see anything too gung-ho from Pacheta’s men here.

- Barcelona won 1-0 at El Alcoraz in the reverse fixture in January.

Of all the teams in the relegation scrap, Huesca are arguably the best to watch and most dangerous going forward. Barcelona won’t have this completely their own way but the visitors lack the defensive foundations to keep Messi and co quiet for 90 minutes and we should still end up with a relatively comfortable home win.
