Eibar vs Huesca Preview
The weekend in LaLiga kicks off with a real relegation six-pointer at Ipurua. Results last weekend saw the teams at the bottom really bunch up further with the bottom five now separated by just three points. Huesca remain bottom of the pile, where they have been for most of the season, but they carry more momentum into this game than their opponents.
Eibar are in trouble. 8 games without a win in all competitions, 6 of which ended in defeat is bad enough reading before you even consider that they’ve played several fellow strugglers during that period. They’ve taken just one point from their last three games – against Osasuna, Real Valladolid and Elche. With Cadiz immediately following this game, it’s imperative that they win at least one of the next two as their fixtures do get considerably tougher after that.
The fact that Eibar are struggling this season isn’t a huge surprise. They have steadily slided down the table over the past couple of years, towards the relegation scrap without ever really getting involved in it. Given the size of the club, the ease with which they’ve avoided any real worries of sliding down to the Segunda Division is remarkable but it does feel as though it is going to be a different story this year.
Huesca meanwhile have a fresh wave of optimism thanks to victories over Real Valladolid and Granada since Pacheta took over. The new boss has overseen some improved displays but Huesca have also been more clinical under his leadership with 3 goals scored in each of those victories, the most recent of which was only last weekend.
