Malaga vs Rayo Vallecano Preview
This Sunday we are in the south of Spain as Málaga host Rayo Vallecano in La Rosaleda. There are normally goals when these two sides meet and with both teams out of form who knows what to expect.
Málaga see themselves 15th in the league table with one win in their last 9 league games. It is not looking promising for Sergio Pellicer’s side. If they are not careful they could be dragged into a relegation dogfight and that is something Los Boquerones were desperate to avoid. This side is still in a transition period after finishing 14th last season and seeing a lot of players come and go due to their dire financial situation.
In their last outing against Sporting, they were unfortunate to lose. Lots of chances were created but they just couldn’t find the back of the net and this is something we are seeing frequently with this Málaga side. This week midfielder Alexander Gonzalez penned a new one year deal with the club. The Venezuelan has started life in the south of Spain very well and will be hoping to help his side move up the table.
Rayo go into this match after a couple of bad performances. After their great 3-2 away win at Espanyol it looked like they would build on that but instead a 1-0 shock loss to Tenerife at home was followed by a 2-2 draw away at Cartagena leaving Head Coach Andoni Iraola scratching his head. Los Vallecanos did show great heart coming back from a two goal deficit but it wasn’t the result they wanted.
They find themselves 6th in the league and they are not far off from the sides above them. They need to get back to winning ways quickly as the sides below them are also close. The automatic promotion race has been blown wide open, the play off positions are all to play for and Iraola will know his side cannot afford another setback.
