Villarreal vs Real Betis Preview

LaLiga predictions

This Sunday’s late game in LaLiga has the potential to be a good one as Real Betis visit the Ceramica to take on Villarreal. Both sides reached but lost Copa del Rey Quarter Finals and are now focused on pushing for European qualification through the league. That shouldn’t be too difficult a task for Villarreal. They are in 5th place with a 6 point advantage on Betis in 7th heading into this weekend. However they do need to find a cure for their draw problem with over half of their league games this season having ended level, including all of their last 3.

The most recent of which would probably have been the biggest source of frustration for Unai Emery. His side were 2-0 up and cruising against Elche, widely considered to be the weakest team in the division. However they let their advantage, courtesy of a Gerard Moreno brace, slip and ended up again with only a point to show for their efforts.

Real Betis meanwhile come into this following an entertaining 3-2 defeat to Barcelona. They will also be wondering what might have been given they led at the break through Borja Iglesias’ goal but they should at least be able to take some comfort from the fact it was the brilliance of Leo Messi that largely turned the game around, rather than their own failings as has often been the case.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side had not lost inside 90 minutes in 2021 prior to that so overall there have been signs of progress for Betis. The return to form of Borja Iglesias has been one real positive but unfortunately he is injured here and that could thwart his progress after what had been a difficult first 18 months in Seville.
