There’s a derby clash in the Spanish capital on Tuesday as Real Madrid and Getafe meet in the only midweek game in LaLiga this week. Real Madrid are looking to close the gap on leaders Atleti but will have played two games more after this one.

Zinedine Zidane’s side at least stopped what had become a bit of a rot at the weekend. They had to come from behind to see off Huesca 2-1 at El Alcoraz with Raphael Varane the unlikely match winner with a brace. However it was another relatively unconvincing display with Madrid claiming victory thanks to their set-piece threat rather than their ability to slice open the league’s bottom club.

While they won’t give up on the title race, attention is already starting to turn to a trip to Italy to play Atalanta in the Champions League last 16 later this month. So often the saving grace for Madrid, Europe’s premier cup competition is again looking like it may be Zidane’s best route to extending his stay in the Bernabeu hotseat beyond the end of this campaign.

While they have often been difficult opponents, this feels like a good time to be playing Getafe. Jose Bordalas’ side are caught in something of an identity crisis it would seem. With Jorge Molina no longer at the club and the lack of a convincing target man, they’ve attempted to evolve their style of play to some extent over the past month but they seem to have lost some of those core Getafe attributes.

Suddenly they are conceding goals with 8 shipped in their last two away league games, a 5-1 defeat in Bilbao before Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Sevilla. Djene saw red in the latter to leave them without their most convincing defender for the difficult trip across Madrid to the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

Getafe are missing Djene to suspension but Mauro Arambarri is available again.

Predicted Real Madrid Starting Lineup:

Courtois – Mendy, Varane, Chust, Nacho – Casemiro, Modric, Marvin – Asensio, Benzema, Vini (4-3-3)

Predicted Getafe Starting Lineup:

Yáñez – Nyom, Chakla, Olivera, Suárez – Kubo, Arambarri, Maksimovic, Cucurella – Aleñà – Mata (4-4-1-1)

Real Madrid vs Getafe Predictions

Score Prediction: Real Madrid 2-1 Getafe

With this many players missing, Getafe might have really fancied their chances in this match, were this last season or any of the previous two. However they aren’t operating on the same level right now and this is still a match Los Blancos ought to end up winning even with their multitude of absentees.
