Sevilla vs Getafe Preview
Getafe travel to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan on Saturday evening. It’s worth a reminder that Getafe actually finished above Sevilla in the 2018/19 season but a lot has changed since then and they don’t look as convincing these days while Los Nervionenses have gone from strength to strength under Julen Lopetegui.
Sevilla will have one eye on their Copa del Rey Semi-Final 1st Leg against Barcelona this coming week and it feels like it could be another season when the cups take on real significance in the red and white half of the city of Seville. They are currently 4th in LaLiga and overall should quite comfortably qualify for the Champions League again unless we see either Villarreal or Real Sociedad have an outstanding end to the campaign which currently looks doubtful.
Sevilla still need to keep churning out the league wins though and they’ve been doing that successfully of late. They’ve won 4 of their last 5 in LaLiga including all of their last 3 and back-to-back home games against Getafe and Huesca give them a real chance to not only pull away of the teams in 5th and 6th but potentially even overhaul Real Madrid and Barcelona, both of whom they currently trail by only a point.
As for Getafe, they fall into a batch of clubs that lie somewhere between the relegation scrap and the push for the final European place. Back-to-back league wins in January did lift spirits but they’ve since suffered a 5-1 defeat in Bilbao, a scoreline that you really wouldn’t expect to see from Jose Bordalas’ side who have made a living out of being solid defensively.
They were better in that regard against Alaves last time out but an uninspiring 0-0 home draw would hardly have put them in a better mood coming into this. The loan additions of Carles Alena and Take Kubo have brought around an evolution in terms of how they set up but it doesn’t feel as though Jose Bordalas has stumbled on the perfect solution yet and it’ll be interesting to see how they approach this.

Team News
Ivan Rakitic is banned for Sevilla. Jesus Navas is a doubt but is still expected to play.
Mauro Arambarri is banned for Getafe who may consider reverting back to a 4-4-2, particularly given their last away result in Bilbao. That may depend on either Cucho or Enes Unal being passed fit following injuries.
Predicted Sevilla Starting Lineup:
Bono – Rekik, Carlos, Kounde, Navas – Jordan, Fernando, Torres – Ocampos, En-Nesyri, Suso (4-3-3)
Predicted Getafe Starting Lineup:
Yanez – Nyom, Djene, Etxeita, Suarez – Cucurella, Timor, Maksimovic, Alena – Mata, Cucho (4-4-2)
Sevilla vs Getafe Predictions
Score Prediction: Sevilla 2-0 Getafe
Sevilla are looking really strong again and while not a guaranteed starter, the January signing of Papu Gomez just adds an extra dimension to their attacking play which could make the difference in tight games. He also helps them in the rotation department and they have enough depth to make a few changes from their midweek cup tie and still win this game with Getafe not looking convincing.
