Eibar travel to Pamplona on Sunday in LaLiga in what is one of a couple of bottom six clashes this weekend. The results in these kinds of matches can prove decisive in the final reckoning and even before considering the local rivalry, we can expect a very competitive fixture.

Osasuna are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference heading into this matchday. They’ve struggled to record enough victories to pull themselves away from danger but there have been some things that will have offered encouragement to Jagoba Arrasate of late.

A 3-1 win over Granada in their most recent home game was a big step in the right direction and they probably should have got a result at Betis on Monday in a game they ultimately lost 1-0 despite having 15 attempts on goal to the home team’s 8. They do continue to be hampered by injuries though and will have to do some late fitness checks again here.

Eibar are expecting to be without goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic which is a significant blow for them. Since winning their opening game of the new year, it has been a difficult start to 2021 for the Basque minnows. They’ve exited the Copa del Rey against third tier opponents and have only taken one point from their last four league games.

They are something of masters in the art of picking up a victory just when everyone is starting to write them off but there are some worrying signs for this Eibar team. Only Elche have scored fewer goals than them in LaLiga this term and there is certainly a lack of creativity in their ranks but defensively they have been quite solid with only 1.10 goals per game conceded on average, the second best record outside of the top six.

LaLiga Match Previews

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Osasuna Wins, 4 Draws.
  • The sides drew 0-0 at Ipurua earlier this term.
  • The last meeting at El Sadar also ended goalless in August 2019.
  • Indeed there has been just 4 goals in the 5 meetings since Osasuna won 3-2 at Eibar in LaLiga in 2016.

Team News

Osasuna will monitor the fitness of Aridane Hernández and Ante Budimir ahead of this one. Jony and Facundo Roncaglia are among their definite absentees.

Marko Dmitrovic and Kevin Rodrigues are both injury doubts for Eibar.

Predicted Osasuna Starting Lineup:

Herrera – Cruz, U. Garcia, D. Garcia, Vidal – Oier, Moncayola, Martinez – R. Garcia, Calleri, Torres (4-3-3)

Predicted Eibar Starting Lineup:

Yoel – Arbilla, Bigas, Oliveira, Pozo – Gil, Diop, Exposito, Inui – Kike, Muto (4-4-2)

Osasuna vs Eibar Predictions

Score Prediction: Osasuna 2-1 Eibar

Eibar’s defensive resilience may be unsettled by the likely absence of their keeper and that could just serve up an opportunity for Osasuna to claim three valuable points. It’s likely to be a tight game with not a lot to choose between the sides, but the hosts are playing the more convincing football right now and may just edge it.
