Mallorca vs Girona Preview
This Saturday in LaLiga SmartBank we have a big game on our hands as Real Mallorca host Girona in the Estadio Visit Mallorca. Both teams’ objectives this season would’ve been to get promotion and so far it is looking good for Mallorca but with Girona finding some good form we should be in for an interesting game.
Real Mallorca haven’t had the best start to the year, with back to back home defeats and being knocked out of the Copa Del Rey. Overall, it hasn’t been the restart that Head Coach Luis García was expecting.
In their last outing they did pick up a fantastic away win at promotion rivals Rayo Vallecano though, beating them 3-1. This was more like the Mallorca side we have been seeing this season with Salva Sevilla rolling back the years with a great free kick goal. Los Bermellones dominated the match from start to finish and Luis García will be hoping his side can now put their bad run of form behind them. A win here will see them go top of the league as leaders Espanyol play on Sunday.
Girona have started the new year well and they are unbeaten in five matches in the league. Francisco’s side were knocked out of the Copa Del Rey on Tuesday against Villarreal which was a close encounter. They created a lot of chances and were unlucky not to score. Confidence is high in the Girona camp.
In their last league outing they beat league leaders Espanyol. They did ride their luck on more than one occasion but did defend very well and their game management in the second half was excellent. A well taken goal from youngster Pablo Moreno was enough to pick up the three points completing the double on their Catalan Rivals. They will have to match that performance here if they want to get something out of this game.
Head to Head
- Last 5 Competitive Meetings: 2 Mallorca Wins, 3 Girona Wins, 1 Draw.
- Mallorca won 1-0 at Montilivi earlier this term in a game which saw Girona reduced to 9 men.
- All of the last 4 meetings between the clubs have finished 1-0 with 2 wins each.
Mallorca vs Girona Predictions
Score Prediction: Mallorca 1-1 Girona
The last time these two teams played it was very cagey and a tight affair. We could have the same again here. The result could really depend on who scores first and who defends better on the day. Both teams have great attacking threats and both coaches will want to neutralise that.
