Eibar vs Sevilla Preview
Eibar play host to Sevilla in the first game of Saturday’s action in LaLiga. The Basque minnows are looking to put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone by completing an unlikely double over Julen Lopetegui’s side.
A 1-0 victory at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan back in October was part of a sequence which saw Eibar lose only once in ten games in all competitions. While that kind of form was always going to be difficult to sustain given the resources available to them, Eibar have at least put themselves in a position where they are well placed to secure another season at this level.
That being said, they haven’t made a great start to 2021 and have lost 3 of their last 4 matches in all competitions, including a shock 3-1 defeat to third tier Navalcarnero in the Copa del Rey. Bryan Gil’s goal secured a point in Vigo in their last league game and the Sevilla loanee will be hungry to prove a point against his parent club here.
This is a Sevilla side that has been boosted by the arrival of Papu Gomez from Atalanta. While he is 32, the Argentine is still performing on a high level and should help Sevilla become a more potent team in the final third of the pitch. It’s going to be very interesting to see just where Julen Lopegegui intends to use him with versatility one of Gomez’s main strengths.
The new boy may have to wait to make his debut though with Sevilla in pretty good form. Since losing at the Wanda Metropolitano, they’ve reeled off four straight wins, two in the league and two in the Copa del Rey. They also have what is currently LaLiga’s most in-form striker to call upon with Youssef En-Nesyri having already netted two hat-tricks in 2021.

They’ve got a lot better at going to the smaller grounds and winning in LaLiga since Lopetegui took charge and while they’ve had problems against Eibar, the visitors still look as though they will edge this one.
