Atletico Madrid’s title challenge reaches the halfway mark on Sunday at the Estadio Ramon de Carranza. Victory over Cadiz will see Atleti move onto 50 points, the same figure they had halfway through the 2013/14 season, their last title triumph.

Cadiz though have already upset both Barcelona and Real Madrid this season and they’ll be hoping to complete the ‘big 3’ hat-trick here. They were served a warning of how tough it may be when they were hammered 4-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano back in November. Alvaro Cervera would have learnt a few lessons from that and it’ll be interesting to see just how he tries to approach this one.

We aren’t likely to see much of a move away from their approach which sees them happy to let the opposition have the ball. Cadiz average just 38% possession in LaLiga this term, by far the lowest in LaLiga with a pass completion rate of under 68%. It has regularly worked for them, although they were very much second best in a 3-0 defeat at Sevilla last weekend, in a game where they only had 20% of the ball across the 90 minutes, an extreme low even for them.

Despite their evolution this season, Atleti still do most of the things that have come to define them under Diego Simeone. With a little bit of extra firepower in the shape of Luis Suarez, they’ve been consistently winning tight games and they’ve recorded seven straight league wins since losing the Madrid derby.

If there is a wobble coming, we are still waiting for it. The absence of Kieran Trippier does create a problem for them on the right flank but with the likes of Thomas Lemar, Mario Hermoso and Stefan Savic really starting to look like ‘Atleti’ players now, they are overall a much stronger side than they were this time 12 months ago.

Cadiz vs Atletico Madrid Predictions

Score Prediction: Cadiz 0-2 Atletico Madrid

Atleti have fallen behind early in their last two games, so they’ll be determined to start well here and Cadiz in truth aren’t likely to ask too many questions of them. Atleti look very much like a team that is well on course to win LaLiga this season, and they ought to pick up maximum points here.
