The weekend action in Spain kicks off on Friday night with a Madrid derby in the Segunda Division. We’ve not seen much LaLiga SmartBank action over the past month due to the festive break and a weekend of Copa del Rey matches, but things get back to normal now as the long road to the end of the campaign commences and things heat up at both ends of the table.

As is often the case in this league, there are a number of teams who currently will be unsure as to whether they will end up battling relegation or pushing for a play-off place. Fuenlabrada are one of those with 7 points currently separating them from both the top six and bottom four.

Overall José Ramón Sandoval has done a good job of getting them back on track after a really poor run during the middle part of last season. Despite challenging circumstances, he took them to the very brink of the play-offs last term and they’ve been competitive again in 2020/21, although it is 4 defeats out of 6 in the league and slightly worryingly they’ve only won 2 home matches to date, drawing 6 at the Estadio Fernando Torres.

Alcorcon travel across the South Madrid commuter belt, with more belief than they would have a couple of months ago. They’ve recovered pretty well from a woeful start to the season and only 5 teams can better their return of 12 points from their last 8 games.

Rock bottom when Juan Antonio Anquela took charge in early November, they’ve won more than they’ve lost under the experienced boss to climb out of the relegation zone and gave Rayo a good game in a Madrid derby in their last league outing. That was way back on January 2nd, and while they did ultimately succumb to a 2-1 defeat in Vallecas, they have claimed a Copa del Rey win against Zaragoza since then before exiting that competition against top flight Valencia.

Head to Head

  • Last 3 Competitive Meetings: 1 Fuenla Win, 1 Alcorcon Win, 1 Draw.
  • Despite the sides proximity, recent competitive meetings have been pretty rare and this will be only the 4th clash in the Segunda Division.
  • The last two have both seen one team reduced to nine men.
  • Fuenla made a two-man advantage count to win 3-0 at Alcorcon earlier this term while Alcorcon did likewise last season, winning this fixture 4-3.

Fuenlabrada vs Alcorcon Predictions

Score Prediction: Fuenla 1-1 Alcorcon

This game has draw written all over it. That’s how 60% of Fuenla’s home league games have finished up this term. Alcorcon have improved considerably under new management but have only recorded one away win this season and they aren’t convincing enough to suggest they will come here and fully take advantage of the home team’s slump in form.
