This Thursday we have an all Catalan affair in the Copa Del Rey as Segunda División B side Cornellà host LaLiga giants Barcelona at the Camp Municipal de Cornellà. This will be the first time these teams have ever met. Could we be in for another upset?
Cornellà will be hoping they knock out another giant as their remarkable Copa Del Rey journey goes on. No one expected them to get the win against a strong Atleti side and no one will think they can do likewise here.
Coach Guillermo Fernández will think that this could be a great time to play Barça after their Super Cup disappointment on Sunday. He will know his side won’t have a lot of the ball and their plan will be just to stay in the game. The longer they can keep Barcelona out the better their chances are to try and get a goal on the counter or from a set piece. If they are to pull off the unexpected, they will know that they will have to have the best games of their lives.
With Morale low and the elections being postponed, Barcelona seem to be in disarray again. After finding some good form it looked like they had turned a corner this season. Ronald Koeman’s men put in a dull performance in the semi-final penalty shootout win vs Real Sociedad and a really poor performance against Athletic in the Super Cup final on Sunday.
Going into this match it’s unsure which Barça will show up. They will be without Leo Messi as he was sent off in the final and is suspended for two matches. You would think Ronald Koeman would rest a lot of his first team players in this tie but he will want to avoid even more embarrassment and it looks likely he will field quite a strong team. He will want his team to show a reaction to their cup final loss and the only thing he will expect here is to win convincingly.

Score Prediction: Cornella 1-5 Barcelona
There should only be one clear winner here. Even with all the problems Barcelona have, they have enough experienced players to get the job done here comfortably. If Cornellà can get in at half time without conceding then there could be a slight chance for them to get a result.
