Real Betis face their second Andalusian derby in four days on Tuesday night as they play host to Cadiz at the Benito Villamarin. They’ll be well aware of their opponents’ counter-attacking prowess on their travels and that will provide a unique tactical dilemma for Manuel Pellegrini.

Betis remain something of an enigma and it’s perhaps still too early to make a real estimate as to how their season is going to pan out. With 26 goals conceded, comfortably the most in LaLiga, they clearly need to tighten up defensively if they are going to be sure of avoiding being sucked into a relegation battle, yet they still have a few quality players that would walk into almost any team outside of the top six.

They are missing Sergio Canales, who certainly falls into that category. They certainly could have done with a bit of magic from the former Real Sociedad man as they tried to turn around a 2-0 deficit against Granada last time out. Despite having a huge 70% of the ball in the game at Los Carmenes, Betis failed to find a breakthrough and head into this game having lost 4 of their last 6 league games.

Cadiz have an identical record to that with 3 of the 4 points that they’ve accumulated during that period coming via a shock win over Barcelona. Since then though they’ve been hammered 4-0 by Celta Vigo prior to a disappointing home defeat against an out of form Getafe side.

Given the way Cadiz like to operate, we can expect Betis to again totally control possession in this game but Alvaro Cervera will really back his team to cause some problems on the break against a shaky Betis defence. They’ve already chalked up 4 away wins so far this season and while they have struggled in games where they’ve conceded the first goal, were Cadiz to net the opener here, that would set them up nicely to soak the pressure and strike on the counter.

Real Betis vs Cadiz Predictions

Score Prediction: Betis 1-2 Cadiz

Betis are missing some important players here and with the exception of one or two games, they really haven’t convinced this season. Cadiz clearly enjoy playing away and this kind of game may just suit their style of play perfectly against a Betis side that likes to have the ball but one that is blighted by clear defensive flaws which Cadiz could expose on the break.
