There’s a Basque derby at Mendizorroza late on Wednesday evening as Alaves and Eibar lock horns. Both sides look like they are going to be involved in the relegation scrap this year, although the same could be said for half of LaLiga, the way things are currently shaping up.

Alaves’ good run of form is over and they’ll be very disappointed to have not taken anything from their last two games which were against previously winless Huesca and a revitalised Celta Vigo. Both were away matches but curiously Alaves have won more times on their travels this season with just a solitary victory so far in Vitoria.

The absence of fans is perhaps a factor in that and they have also had some tricky home fixtures of late with the likes of Real Sociedad and Barcelona among their recent visitors. They managed to hold both of those sides to draws but Pablo Machin will be very hungry for victory here as they look to move clear of the bottom three once more.

Eibar have been playing pretty well of late though and won’t make it easy for them. They’d gone five matches unbeaten in LaLiga before going down 3-1 at home to Real Madrid last time out. They actually had a good chance to equalise late on just prior to Lucas Vazquez’s killer third goal for Los Blancos and José Luis Mendilibar would have been pleased enough by the display, at least in response to the visitors going two up early on.

There was no real pressure on Eibar to get a result there but this is a much bigger game against both a local rival and also what will most likely be a direct rival in the fight for survival. With an average of 1.83 points per game on their travels, Eibar have been enjoying their away days so far this term with all three of their victories coming on the road.

Alaves 1-1 Eibar Predictions

Score Prediction: Alaves 1-1 Eibar

It’s really tough to pick a winner here. Alaves will be the favourites but they haven’t been able to make home advantage count for too much and with Eibar in pretty good overall form, particularly away from home, the visitors look capable of getting a result.
