Cadiz vs Getafe Preview

Getafe travel to Cadiz on Sunday with pressure mounting on the visitors as they look to turn this poor run around. It’ll be an interesting game with Cadiz generally more comfortable away, while Getafe are much stronger at home.

Both teams have a common trait in that they’ve responded badly to victories over Barcelona this season. Cadiz stunned the Catalan giants in their last match at the Estadio Ramon de Carranza, winning 2-1 to record their first home win of the season. However they were blown away in the 1st Half in Galicia on Monday night, sinking to a 4-0 defeat against Celta Vigo.

That was perhaps something of a reality check for Alvaro Cervera’s side but the unique tactical challenge which they pose for opposing coaches is clearly something that is helping to deliver results and already they’ve taken a big chunk out of the kind of points total that is likely to be needed to stay in this league.

Getafe haven’t had to worry about relegation at any point since their return to LaLiga in 2017. That might not be the case this year though unless results turn around soon. Since beating Barcelona 1-0, they’ve gone 7 without a win in LaLiga, taking just 3 points from those matches in total.

That clearly will be a worry for José Bordalás and you could argue that the decline started much earlier than that. They’ve taken only 21 points from their 23 league matches since Spanish football returned from lockdown in June. That’s relegation form in most people’s language and they are struggling badly in the creative department at the moment with their strikers often feeding off scraps.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 3 Cadiz Wins, 3 Getafe Wins.
  • There have only been 3 seasons this century where these clubs have been in the same division.
  • All 6 meetings were won by the team playing at home.
  • The most recent clashes came during the 2016/17 Segunda Division with Cadiz winning this fixture 3-0.

Team News

Marcos Mauro is available again for the hosts who may match Getafe’s 4-4-2 with Anthony Lozano getting a start up top.

Getafe’s Chema is missing due to a ban but that’s not a huge concern with Djene available again. He should replace Xabier Etxeita in central defence after the latter’s own goal cost them against Sevilla.

Predicted Cadiz Starting Lineup:

Ledesma – Espino, Cala, Fali, Iza – Perea, Fernandez, Jonsson, Sanchez – Negredo, Lozano (4-4-2)

Predicted Getafe Starting Lineup:

Soria – Olivera, Djene, Cabaco, Suarez – Cucurella, Maksimovic, Arambarri, Nyom – Cucho, Mata (4-4-2)

Cadiz vs Getafe Predictions

Score Prediction: Cadiz 0-0 Getafe

This one isn’t likely to be a classic but it will be quite interesting to see how it shapes up tactically as the two teams with the lowest pass completion percentages in the league meet. Both like to play quite direct, although in a slightly different way. Getafe rarely throw too much caution to the wind on the road and there is a danger that these two may end up cancelling each other out here.
