Getafe vs Sevilla Preview

Getafe vs Sevilla match preview

Sevilla travel to Madrid on Saturday to take on an out of form Getafe side. After a bright start to the season, Jose Bordalas’ side have struggled for form and having also faded at the end of last season, there is now a suspicion that Getafe may be on a downward curve having defied the odds to compete for European football in recent years.

Bordalas will be desperate to show that is not the case, but privately he may be regretting not leaving the club in the summer for pastures new. The relatively unattractive style of football his side plays may make it tough for him to land a big job in the future if Getafe’s current poor form continues over the course of the season.

Since surprisingly beating Barcelona, Getafe have collected just 3 points from 6 league games. Not only have they been struggling for goals, but they’ve also been conceding quite a few which is not like them at all. They’ve let in three in 2 of their last 4 matches, including a heavy defeat at Levante last time out where the wheels came off a bit with centre-backs Chema and Djene both seeing red to leave them with defensive selection problems here.

Sevilla were impressive 3-0 winners on this ground last season. There is a steeliness to them under Julen Lopetegui that hasn’t been the case for a few seasons and they managed to match Geta’s physicality in that game and come away with all the points.

A repeat performance will be the objective here. Sevilla have won 3 of their last 4 in the league and were 3-1 winners at Rennes in a dead rubber Champions League game in midweek. It was perhaps a slight surprise to see a few regulars such as Diego Carlos and Jules Kounde start that match but they did still manage to give some players a rest and should be relatively refreshed to go again here.

Predicted Getafe Starting Lineup:

Soria – Olivera, Etxeita, Cabaco, Suarez – Cucurella, Maksimovic, Arambarri, Nyom – Unal, Angel (4-4-2)

Predicted Sevilla Starting Lineup:

Bono – Acuna, Carlos, Kounde, Navas – Rakitic, Fernando, Jordan – Ocampos, De Jong, Suso (4-3-3)

Getafe vs Sevilla Predictions

Score Prediction: Getafe 0-2 Sevilla

Getafe are bang out of form and it’ll be tough for them here against a Sevilla side that tends to travel well. The absence of Geta’s first choice central defensive pairing and most dangerous forward in the shape of Jaime Mata, makes Sevilla even clearer favourites and they ought to be leaving the Coliseum with maximum points.
