Sevilla vs Real Madrid Preview
Sevilla take on Real Madrid at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan in what is now a high pressure game for Los Blancos. Zinedine Zidane has rarely had his position come into question as much as it is right now during his time in the Bernabeu hotseat and it’s a massive few days coming up for the Frenchman with a key UCL game to come in midweek too.
Julen Lopetegui will relish the opportunity to deepen the woes of his former employers. He has done a fine job in Seville and has gone a long way to restoring his reputation after a miserable 2018 which saw him fired by Spain on the eve of the World Cup before his brief spell in charge of Los Blancos.
Already through to the knockout stages, Sevilla effectively opted to sacrifice the chance of winning the group in midweek in favour of resting players as they named a much-weakened XI in the 4-0 home defeat to Chelsea. That may prove a smart decision if they can record a 4th straight league win here and it’s a fixture they often do enjoy.
Real Madrid did end a long wait for a win here last season and at least won’t have the hostile Sevilla crowd to contend with this time around. They’ve had a disastrous week, losing 2-1 at home to Alaves in LaLiga prior to a damaging 2-0 loss away to Shakhtar in the Champions League. That leaves them with a decisive final game against group leaders Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday where they run the risk of slipping into the Europa League or being eliminated from Europe altogether.
That crunch UCL fixture comes in between two of the toughest fixtures on their LaLiga calendar, with this one followed by the Madrid derby next weekend. It already feels like a ‘make or break’ week for their season with Los Blancos 7 points off the top of the Spanish top flight heading into this weekend having lost 3 of their last 6 league outings.

Sevilla vs Real Madrid Predictions
Score Prediction: Sevilla 2-1 Real Madrid
Little should be read into Sevilla’s heavy defeat to Chelsea and they will certainly field a much stronger XI here. The rest that some of their key players got was much needed and on current form you have to fancy them here. Even if Real Madrid put in a much improved display, and you’d assume there will be some kind of reaction, Sevilla are well capable of beating the team from the capital, as they regularly do on their own ground.
