Osasuna vs Real Betis Preview

Real Betis travel to El Sadar this weekend, in need of a positive result to lift the gloom that is once again starting to gather over the green and white half of Seville. They are up against an Osasuna side that isn’t in great form themselves with both teams now in the bottom six heading into this match.

It’s just one point from four games for Osasuna but in fairness to them, they have had a difficult run of fixtures. Three of those four games were against teams that finished in the top four last term with a 4-0 defeat at Camp Nou their most recent result.

It has been a mixed start at a new-look El Sadar too with two wins, two defeats and a draw so far in Pamplona for Jagoba Arrasate’s side. If they do slide into a genuine relegation battle, they will at least feel as though the potential return of fans later in the season will give them a lift at what is one of the tougher grounds for visiting teams to play at.

Real Betis may have similar ideas but it’s questionable how warm a welcome they’d get from their supporters right now. 5 defeats in 6 matches have certainly burst Manuel Pellegrini’s early bubble, and that impressive win at Valencia suddenly seems like a long time ago.

Betis head into this match following their worst result of the season to date, a woeful 2-0 home defeat to an Eibar side that has been widely tipped for relegation. They are expecting to be without the injured Sergio Canales until the new year in what is a significant blow to their hopes of turning this decline around. With Nabil Fekir set to occupy the number 10 role, they could really do with some big performances from their most talented player who has been a disappointment so far this term.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 1 Osasuna Win, 4 Betis Wins, 1 Draw.
  • Betis have a good recent record overall vs Osasuna but have only won on 1 of their last 6 trips to El Sadar.
  • That was a 2-1 win in LaLiga in October 2016.
  • Betis were 3-0 winners when the sides last met, at the Benito Villamarin in July 2020.

Team News

Osasuna’s defence is bolstered by the return to fitness of both David Garcia and Aridane Hernandez. Recent signing Jony is expected to be out until the new year.

Betis are missing Sergio Canales and Claudio Bravo again to injury. Aissa Mandi remains a doubt.

Predicted Osasuna Starting Lineup:

Herrera – Perez, Hernandez, Garcia, Roncaglia – Torres, Sanjurjo, Moncayola, Garcia – Budimir, Gallego (4-4-2)

Predicted Betis Starting Lineup:

Joel – Moreno, Bartra, Sidnei, Emerson – Guardado, Rodriguez – Tello, Fekir, Joaquin – Sanabria (4-2-3-1)

Osasuna vs Real Betis Predictions

Score Prediction: Osasuna 2-0 Real Betis

Real Betis are leaking goals all over the place and aren’t even creating that much at the moment. They need a vastly improved display to be competitive here but Osasuna look capable winning this despite some significant injury absentees themselves.
