Granada vs PSV Preview

Granada vs PSV match preview

Granada play their 8th Europa League game of the season on Thursday night in what is their debut European campaign. They’ll be hopeful that there could be plenty more to come too. Victory over PSV would ensure they win Group E while a point would guarantee their progress into the knockout stage.

Granada have so far coped brilliantly with the challenges that European football have thrown up. After making smooth progress through the qualifiers including a tough play-off round game at Malmo, they’ve continued to deliver the goods in the group stage with 3 wins out of 4. That includes an excellent 2-1 win in Eindhoven in the reverse fixture and they come into this one following back-to-back wins over Cypriot side Omonia.

Diego Martinez will be a bit disappointed by a slump in his team’s league form though. They’ve lost their last 3 in LaLiga with the extra workload perhaps starting to take its toll on some players. They head into this game following a 3-1 defeat in Vigo but Granada do remain in 8th place, just one below their outstanding final finishing position last term.

PSV would have expected to progress from this group when the draw was made. They kept their destiny in their own hands with a fine comeback victory in the Netherlands last week, as they came from 2-0 down to beat PAOK 3-2. Having lost 2 of their opening 3 matches, that was a key turnaround and even if they lose here, PSV will still be in the hunt for a place in the knockout stages come the final matchday when they host bottom side Omonia.

With 3 wins and a draw from their last 4 games in all competitions, PSV do take good form into this and they’ll be hopeful of giving a better account of themselves than in the first meeting.

Granada vs PSV Predictions

Score Prediction: Granada 1-1 PSV

Granada have just hit a bit of a rocky spell. While they did see off Omonia last Thursday at Los Carmenes, it wasn’t their most convincing display and their defence will be tested much more regularly by this opposition. Overall, a draw looks the most likely outcome and that would be enough to ensure Granada have European football to look forward to in 2021.
