Real Betis vs Eibar Preview

The Monday night game in LaLiga comes from the Benito Villamarin this week. An inconsistent Real Betis side are hoping to return to winning ways as they take on struggling Eibar who look set to be involved in the relegation scrap this term.

Betis come into this game having conceded 9 goals in their last 2 matches alone. Heavy defeats at Camp Nou and San Mames have certainly set them back after what was a relatively encouraging start to life under Manuel Pellegrini. A total transformation was always unlikely given the limited business Betis did in the summer and they have been hit by some injury problems of late with key men Sergio Canales and Nabil Fekir both missing for the 4-0 defeat in Bilbao last Monday.

The latter should return here but those defensive flaws will be a little harder to fix. Betis have conceded more than any other team in LaLiga this season, averaging 2.1 goals against per game and it’s hard to see them really finishing above mid-table while those issues remain.

Eibar aren’t the team that are best equipped to exploit Betis’ defensive problems though. They are the lowest scoring side in LaLiga with just 6 goals in 10 matches so far this term. 2 of those came via centre-back Esteban Burgos who can’t exactly be relied upon to be a regular source of goals and their top scorer Kike Garcia (3) is suspended here.

Despite that, their overall form isn’t too bad coming into this game. They’ve lost just 1 of their last 6 league matches and José Luis Mendilibar’s men have actually taken 7 points from their last 3 away games, including a shock 1-0 win in this city against Sevilla.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 1 Betis Win, 2 Eibar Wins, 3 Draws.
  • Betis haven’t won any of their last 4 league games against Eibar, drawing 3 and losing 1.
  • Their last success was a 2-0 win on this ground in April 2018.
  • Eibar’s only top flight victory at the Benito Villamarin came via a 4-0 margin on their first LaLiga visit in 2016.

Team News

Sergio Canales is still out injured for Betis but Nabil Fekir returns. Centre-back Aissa Mandi is no longer suspended but is set to be absent having tested positive for COVID-19.

Top scorer Kike Garcia is banned for Eibar. Centre-back Paulo Oliveira is an injury doubt.

Predicted Betis Starting Lineup:

Bravo – Moreno, Bartra, Sidnei, Emerson – Rodriguez, Carvalho – Tello, Fekir, Joaquin – Sanabria (4-2-3-1)

Predicted Eibar Starting Lineup:

Dmitrovic – Arbilla, Bigas, Burgos, Pozo – Gil, Diop, Exposito, Rodrigues – Muto, Enrich (4-4-2)

Real Betis vs Eibar Predictions

Score Prediction: Real Betis 2-1 Eibar

Betis will be glad to get back to the Benito Villamarin where they did perform well in their last home outing – a dominant 3-1 win over Elche. The absence of Canales is a blow but they still have considerably more attacking quality than Eibar and it’s a game they ought to control in midfield which ought to provide a platform for the hosts to go on and claim three points.
