Espanyol vs Zaragoza Preview
Espanyol welcome Real Zaragoza this weekend in the RCDE Stadium. Both teams need a win and both are in a hurry to get more points on the board.
Espanyol have now lost back to back games and have only picked up one point in their last three. Vicente Moreno will be wanting that free scoring, solid at the back, Espanyol back for this game. What will be on his mind is how outplayed they were against Leganes and if it wasn’t for Diego Lopez it could have been four or five.
They have now dropped to 3rd in the league when two weeks ago it looked like they were running away with it and would never be moved from the top. The Blanquiazules won’t have right back Miguelon for this match as he was showed a second yellow for a foul that possibly didn’t warrant a yellow card. If Espanyol do bounce back with a win here they will go back to the top of the league but maybe only for a couple of hours as the teams near them play later. Vicente Moreno will hope for a fast start to get back on that winning train.
It has been a really tough month for Real Zaragoza. They’ve sacked head coach Ruben Baraja and put their faith in Ivan Martinez to steady the ship. It hasn’t really worked so far, losing all three games since the change and Los Maños are now winless since the start of October.
They see themselves in the relegation spot and that is something a team of Zaragoza’s stature shouldn’t be in. They missed out in the play offs last season and it looked like they could push even further this term but it has just not happened. They were unfortunate last match against Rayo and could have had the game dead and buried but failed to put away the chances they created. Ivan Martinez will be hoping that his team will be more clinical this time around and will manage to come away with something.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 1 Espanyol Win, 4 Zaragoza Wins, 1 Draw.
- The clubs haven’t met since Zaragoza’s last top flight campaign, way back in the 2012/13 season.
- Despite relegation, Zaragoza won 2-1 at Espanyol that year while the sides drew 0-0 at La Romareda.
Espanyol vs Zaragoza Predictions
Score Prediction: Espanyol 3-0 Zaragoza
Espanyol haven’t been scoring as freely in their past three matches but should win comfortably here. Vicente Moreno will want to see his side react after a few off games and with Zaragoza in disarray it should be one way traffic. Zaragoza can only hope that Espanyol don’t turn up for this one.
Hasta siempre, Diego.
