Elche vs Cadiz Preview

Elche vs Cadiz predictions

Two newly promoted sides clash in the Valencian region of Spain on Saturday in LaLiga. Both Elche and Cadiz will be very happy with how they’ve started the season having both been widely tipped for the drop. However both coaches will be aware that there is a long way to go and a downturn in form could quickly see either side fall into the thick of the relegation scrap.

Few gave Jorge Almirón much chance of guiding Elche to safety, having been thrown in at the deep end into his first job in European football. Having had barely a matter of weeks to assemble a squad to compete at this level, Elche have done brilliantly to put 12 points on the board from their first 8 games.

There have been a few games where they’ve been fortunate to salvage a result, but it’s just one defeat in seven for them heading into this match which certainly bodes well in terms of their chances here. They have only won one of their four home games though and they’ll be well aware of Cadiz’s formidable away record.

The visitors won each of their first four road fixtures, a terrific achievement for a newly promoted club but they have been dealt a few reality checks in recent weeks. Their fine away run was ended emphatically by Atletico Madrid who put four goals past them at the Wanda Metropolitano. They only lost 1-0 at home to Real Sociedad last time out back at the Estadio Ramón de Carranza but it was a thoroughly one-sided game with Cadiz only mustering two attempts in the ninety minutes, neither of which hit the target.

It’ll be interesting to see how both coaches approach this one. Cadiz aren’t likely to veer from their successful counter-attacking style but they may feel as though it’s the kind of match where they can afford to play a little more on the front foot and try to spend more time in possession.

Elche vs Cadiz Predictions

Score Prediction: Elche 0-0 Cadiz

It’s a tough one to call. Cadiz have been terrific on their travels but those two recent defeats have brought their top flight honeymoon period to an end and they do have some significant injury problems. A match against a team that won’t throw numbers forward and attack them like some others have tried and failed to do might not suit them either. A draw looks like the most likely outcome with neither side boasting much firepower and it wouldn’t be a terrible result for either team.
