This is probably the standout fixture in LaLiga on Sunday and that’s testament to how well these two sides have started the season. Real Sociedad are setting the pace at the very top of the pile and another win here would make it 6 on the bounce in the Spanish top flight and would add further weight to the notion that La Real could mount a surprise title push. Cadiz won’t be doing that but they’ve also made a fabulous start on their return to LaLiga, despite a heavy defeat last time out.

That came in the shape of a 4-0 loss against Atletico Madrid, which certainly was a bit of a reality check following on from four straight away wins to nil. Alvaro Cervera and his team would still have enjoyed the break though with 14 points on the board, a sizeable step in the direction of securing survival which was always going to be their only major aim this season.

They are yet to record a home victory though. They’ve been held by Villarreal and Granada in their last two outings at the Ramon de Carranza and it might just suit them facing strong opposition again here where they can sit a bit deeper and almost treat it like an away fixture.

Real Sociedad won’t fear anybody right now though. They are not just winning matches, but winning well. In their last 5 league games, La Real have scored 16 and conceded just 2 and few can argue that they don’t deserve their current status as table toppers.

This will be a different kind of test for Real Sociedad but if Cadiz do sit back and defend very deep, they’ll fancy that they will still have the tools to unlock the home team’s door with the likes of David Silva, Mikel Oyarzabal and Mikel Merino all in good form.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 3 Real Sociedad Wins, 3 Draws.
  • The sides haven’t met since the 2009/10 Segunda Division.
  • Real Sociedad were 4-1 and 3-1 winners in the two meetings that season.
  • Cadiz haven’t won any of the 6 meetings this century.

Team News

Jose Mari is out for Cadiz who also have doubts over the fitness of key men Salvi Sanchez, Juan Cala and Alvaro Negredo heading into this game.

Robin Le Normand is suspended for Real Sociedad meaning Igor Zubeldia should fill in at centre-back. Otherwise they ought to be at full strength here.

Predicted Cadiz Starting Lineup:

Ledesma – Espino, Mauro, Fali, Akapo – Alex Fernandez, Jonsson, Garrido, Salvi – Jairo, Malbasic (4-4-2)

Predicted Real Sociedad Starting Lineup:

Remiro – Monreal, Zubeldia, Elustondo, Zaldua – Merino, Guevara, Silva – Oyarzabal, Jose, Portu (4-3-3)

Cadiz vs Real Sociedad Predictions

Score Prediction: Cadiz 0-2 Real Sociedad

Cadiz have a few selection problems heading into this game and that heavy loss in Madrid would have just knocked their confidence levels a touch. This is about as tough a game as they could possibly have on the back of that, and the way Real Sociedad are playing, you have to fancy the visitors to make it 6 straight league wins here.
