Valencia vs Real Madrid Preview
Valencia entertain Real Madrid in the pick of the weekend games in LaLiga. In previous seasons this has often been a really tough fixture for Los Blancos but they won’t see much in this present Valencia team that will strike fear into them.
Javi Gracia would have left last weekend’s 2-2 draw with mixed feelings. He saw his team throw a 1-0 lead away heading into the final few minutes against Getafe to trail 2-1 before Carlos Soler converted a 100th minute penalty to salvage a point from an ill-tempered game.
That at least ended a three game losing streak for Los Che but they have plummeted down the table to 13th having briefly topped it a few weeks back. Geoffrey Kondogbia’s move to Atletico Madrid has seen them lose yet another key player and while there is clearly plenty of talent remaining in the likes of Yunus Musah, the pressure of a potential relegation battle may weigh heavily on this youthful squad.
They could slip down into the bottom six this weekend if they do fall to defeat against a Real Madrid side that has won 5 of their last 6 matches in LaLiga. They’ve picked themselves up again pretty well following those two really poor home displays against Cadiz and Shakhtar.
Zinedine Zidane will certainly be feeling much more positive after a vital 3-2 home win against Inter in the Champions League on Tuesday and they’ve had plenty of time to gear up for their final fixture before the international break.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 1 Valencia Win, 4 Real Madrid Wins, 1 Draw.
- Real Madrid have only won on 1 of their last 5 trips to Mestalla.
- That was by a 4-1 margin in January 2018.
- The sides met 3 times last season with Real Madrid winning twice including a 3-1 Supercopa win in Saudi Arabia.
Thierry Correia is suspended for Valencia while Mouctar Diakhaby is their only expected injury absentee.
Real Madrid’s selection problems are mostly in defence with Álvaro Odriozola, Dani Carvajal, Nacho and Eder Militao all expected to be unavailable. Casemiro and Eden Hazard have both tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss this game.
Predicted Valencia Starting Lineup:
Jaume – Gaya, Guillamon, Gabriel, Wass – Guedes, Racic, Soler, Musah – Gomez, Kang-In (4-4-2)
Predicted Real Madrid Starting Lineup:
Courtois – Mendy, Ramos, Varane, Vazquez – Valverde, Kroos, Modric – Vinicius, Benzema, Asensio (4-3-3)
Valencia vs Real Madrid Predictions
Score Prediction: Valencia 1-3 Real Madrid
A lack of goals has been the main concern for Real Madrid for some time now but there have been encouraging signs with regards to that in recent weeks. Los Blancos have scored 12 times in their last 4 matches in all competitions and that includes two tough fixtures in the Champions League and the Clasico. They should have too much for a Valencia side that is still making too many defensive errors.
