Sevilla vs Osasuna Preview

Sevilla vs Osasuna predictions

Sevilla are back at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, a few days on from an outstanding European comeback which may prove to be something of a turning point in their season. After a slow start in LaLiga, they’ll be hungry to get back to winning ways here and in theory a home match against an Osasuna side that continues to be plagued by injuries gives them a good chance to do that.

The Andalusians were in deep trouble when they surprisingly fell 2-0 down against Krasnodar in midweek in the Champions League. Having only scored 4 goals in their previous 7 matches in all competitions, Julen Lopetegui would have been deeply concerned that his team weren’t going to turn things around but they suddenly found their shooting boots with a brace from Youssef En-Nesyri completing a fine Second Half turnaround for a Sevilla side that had been reduced to ten men.

That result will breed belief but they really do need to end a three game losing streak in LaLiga here. With Real Sociedad looking strong and currently setting the pace at the top, Sevilla no longer appear to have the clear path to another top four finish that many suspected when this season started in September.

Opponents Osasuna are currently three points better off than them and are sitting comfortably in mid-table. They’ll be more than happy if they are still there in May and despite their selection woes they have continued to grind out results.

Defensively they are genuinely well organised but they had something of an off-day as they lost 3-1 at home to Atletico Madrid last time out. Jagoba Arrasate’s side had kept three straight clean sheets prior to that.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 5 Sevilla Wins, 1 Draw.
  • Sevilla won this fixture 3-2 last season having drawn 1-1 in Pamplona earlier in the campaign.
  • They have won all of their last 7 home games against Osasuna.
  • Osasuna haven’t beaten Sevilla since a 2-1 win in May 2013.

Team News

Youssef En-Nesyri may be rewarded with a start for Sevilla after his midweek brace. We could see some rotation in other areas but Suso and Sergi Gomez are both doubts.

Osasuna have five players unavailable due to injury including Aridane Hernandez and Jonathan Calleri. Recent arrival Ante Budimir may get the nod in attack.

Predicted Sevilla Starting Lineup:

Bono – Acuna, Carlos, Kounde, Navas – Rakitic, Fernando, Jordan – Ocampos, En-Nesyri, Munir (4-3-3)

Predicted Osasuna Starting Lineup:

Herrera – Perez, Garcia, Garcia, Roncaglia – Moncayola, Sanjurjo – Jony, Garcia, Torres – Budimir (4-2-3-1)

Sevilla vs Osasuna Predictions

Score Prediction: Sevilla 2-0 Osasuna

The need to push for goals seemed to release the shackles a bit on Sevilla in midweek and sparked a much better attacking display. They are going to face more teams that simply park the bus against them this season and this may be another of those matches. You wonder if what happened against Krasnodar may just be a sign to Julen Lopetegui that he needs to shift to a slightly more positive approach in these kinds of games and allow his midfielders more freedom to get forward and push for goals. They have plenty of players capable of scoring from midfield or wide areas and we should see them have a bit too much for Osasuna here over the course of 90 minutes.
